Variety of roles available - Full-Time or Part-Time, and both Ongoing (Permanent) or Fixed-Term to suit your lifestyle.

About Us

We are Bishop Druitt College, the leading K-12 Anglican school on the stunning NSW North Coast. We are all about high academic standards, great pastoral care, and exciting, modern ways of learning. Through what we call the "BDC Way", we help shape the whole person by focusing on curiosity, deep care for one another, and plenty of fun extra-curricular activities.

The Opportunity

Are you a passionate, dynamic, and forward-thinking HSIE Teacher?

We are now taking external applications from dedicated educators who love bringing history, geography, and social sciences to life. Because we are hiring for multiple positions, we want to hear from HSIE practitioners with various specialities.

If you love the idea of inspiring our secondary students and supporting them to be "World Prepared", you will fit right in here.

So whether you're a passionate Jnr. Geography Innovator, an experienced Business and Legal Studies extraordinaire or a HSIE All-Rounder focused on academic excellence, we want to hear from you. You will have a proven track record and background in teaching up to Stage 6 (as an advantage) with the creative drive to design an inspiring, modern, and ‘real-world-rich' curriculum. You will have excellent pedagogical practice across multiple HSIE disciplines, with a focus on stretching our academic achievers.

With our Anglican ethos forming the fabric of our culture, we are also looking for teachers who are open to taking on a few classes in our rewarding Religious Education Program (REP). This program aligns beautifully with our supportive values and helps our students grow into kind, thoughtful young adults.

Reporting to the Head of Faculty - HSIE, you will:

  • Bring the World to the Classroom: Plan and teach engaging, inquiry-based HSIE lessons that prompt students to critically analyse the world around them.
  • Transform Learning with Tech: Use innovative teaching styles in our modern learning spaces (we use Google Suite, Schoolbox, and TASS to keep things running smoothly).
  • Guide Our Seniors: Support and mentor our Stage 6 students, helping them feel confident, critical, and fully prepared for their HSC examinations.
  • Collaborate and Lead: Work alongside a passionate team of educators to share resources, develop innovative programs, and lead curriculum design (especially in Junior Geography).
  • Be a Mentor: Jump into our Tutor program to check in on student wellbeing and help everyone feel safe and welcome.
  • Get Involved: Help out with the fun stuff outside the classroom, like clubs, excursions, camps, and school carnivals!

Requirements for the role:

  • A secondary teaching degree with a major or specialisation in at least one of these HSIE areas; History, Geography, Business, Legal Studies, or another related discipline.
  • NESA registration (or eligibility to get it).
  • A current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates (or willingness to obtain them).
  • Experience in teaching HSIE to all secondary ages (Years 7-12).
  • A background in teaching Stage 6 HSIE subjects, ie. Modern History, Business &/or Legal Studies, Geography (as an advantage).
  • Demonstrated expertise in student-centred, inquiry-based learning, plus comfort using digital tools.

About You:

  • You are supportive of our Christian, caring Anglican ethos.
  • You are a great communicator who builds easy, positive relationships with students, parents, and fellow teachers.
  • You are a true team player—flexible, collaborative, and always keen to keep learning and growing.

Why You'll Love Working With Us

  • You will be part of a super supportive, active, and collaborative HSIE faculty.
  • We offer excellent professional development, including NESA accreditation support and HSC marking pathways.
  • Our campus is modern, bright, and packed with great technology to support agile teaching.
  • Incredible work-life balance supported by living in picturesque Coffs Harbour—enjoy beautiful beaches, famous coastal and bush walks, and access to an amazing coastal lifestyle.

How to Apply

Apply online on our recruitment website, making sure you include:

  • A Cover Letter letting us know which of the HSIE roles you are applying for and why you are the perfect fit.
  • A current Resume/CV showing your qualifications, teaching experience, and NESA details.
  • Contact details for three professional referees.
  • Copies of your NESA accreditation and NSW WWCC.

BDC is a child-safe environment, so a Working with Children Check and pre-employment screening is essential.
